This idea was completely stupid......but........does it really matter? If everyone really thinks were gonna be horrible anyway then who cares? If your like me anjd think that tbe mets r gonna surprise some people then yeah it would have been nice to get some practice in at citi but realistically by next week they will all be used to to new dimensions and no one will even remeber that this happened.

See, thes are the kinds of things that people still find a way to overlook in the endless quest to happily root root root for the home team regardless of the mess that's been made of it.
How many different ways do people have to twist to not see how money drives far too many of the decisions of ownership. The terrible state of affairs is the love of money - they spent hesitantly and then foolishly to make up for it; they hocked their team, they hocked the network that was formed with financial assets stripped from the team, and then they either knowingly or blindly invested in a scam because of their hunger for even more money. This little schtick was particularly pathetic. Scheduling a meaningless game that had nothing to do with what spring training is intended to be against a Yankee squad that they knew was going to be essentially bench players and then jacking up prices is so sick. So sad. Still, because it was billed as a Subway Series game, 7.644 people showed up. Assume they paid $50 each on average - which is high. That's a gross of $382K - call it $500K after concessions - but before costs. And that's being generous. Is that what the Wilpons have come to? And look at the small potatoes involved and the GM came to the team to apologize because the decision came from up high? That tells you how much influence and authority Alderson has - he can't even protect his team from being abused for puny amounts like that. But you can almost see the wheels spinning in the heads of the Wilpons. Half a mil - that's the cost of one of our league minimum players! Too bad we can't do this 25 times every spring! |

even worse, the yankees fielded basically a AAA team, none of their stars wanted to take a 4 hr bus ride across the state to play in St. Lucie.
