It looks like Torres could be returning soon. That being said what do the Mets do with him and Capt. Kirk? I am currently leaning towards getting rid of Baxter and making Torres the 4th OF'er. Keeping Kirk in CF. What's your opinion? What should the Mets do?

Platoon Bay I thought they were in a "full rebuild"? What does Jason Bay contribute to that? Would he even be here if it wasn't for his salary? -------------------- '-|-'

I thought Terry alluded to the idea that Torres would be taking over the starting position and Kirk would go back to minors. Yes, I also believe that is the case. But it's kind of like last year where they're only half-rebuilding, and half still trying to justify salaries and give the appearance that they still have guys around where they can compete. -------------------- '-|-'

You and I both know its the correct move for a rebuilding team. Yes and we still know it's not happening, lol. BTW nice game for Capt. Kirk today. There is no way you can send him down, you just can't. He belongs in the MLB. -------------------- People ask me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. So if you were the GM you would actually cut Jason Bay? I do not think your tenure would be long if you did that. Can you share the pro and con of that decision? pros - he stinks - he is going to take away at bats from a kid who should be getting them if the team is rebuilding cons - none -------------------- '-|-'

The only con would be if he signed with the Phillies or Braves and started killing the Mets..... all very unlikely. The con is if the player has market value, however limited and you give him away you did not maximize the return. If the player starts playing better, and his value his anticipated to increase from the low point it is at, once again you did not maximize the retrun for the team. Any prospects bay can bring back, and any money another team will pick up is a win. If you simply cut him that is not the way a gm does his job. |

Based on the few games I've watched, Kirk must stay in the lineup. He is our future so now that he has proven he can play in the Majors keep him here and give him the job. Offer Hairston,Baxter or Torres in a trade. But Kirk deserves a full time look!

Captain Kirk is a keeper.
I think the Mets have two outfielders to build around (Duda and Kirk). And most likely Duda should be a left fielder. |

Within the past three seasons bay did put up one with a .921 OPS with north of 30 dingers, 100 runs and 100 rbi. And then the injury came. It has not been pretty to say the least. But he was good in september and has shown some life this past week. That is why I say platoon. Is there a young stud prospect he is currently blocking? |

That is why I say platoon. Is there a young stud prospect he is currently blocking? that's the whole point - platoon or not, he's taking at bats away from young players during a rebuilding effort. and there's no way you are going to get even a bag of balls for him if he's only playing against lefties. -------------------- '-|-'

Who is Bay taking at bats away from? Collins has already indicated Torres would be taking over the starting position and Niewenhuis would go back to the minors. If they cut Baxter for example instead, you still have 4 guys for 3 positions. -------------------- '-|-'

So Bay is not blocking any prospect. |

Baxter put up a .900 OPS two years ago in AAA....and he's still only 27 years old. He's definitely a prospect. Bay and Torres are not prospects. Baxter has the potential to become a #5 outfielder on a mlb roster. Plays corners but seems on the surface to lack the pop (outsidethe pcl with its high altitude and inflated numbers) to be a run producer in the majors. He was waived by the padres, signed by the mets, then waived by the mets and resigned. I am not a scout but at his age and track record to date he sounds like a nick evans type guy who will not crack the mets lineup. And to me torres seems like a good #4 outfielder, and with hairston #5, i would like captain kirk to start and baxter to go down. |

Keep Baxter. Hairston is not in our rebuilding plan! Neither are. On a weird note below is how they described hairston in the ny daily news.. Hi there. The Mets have agreed to terms on a major league contract with Scott Hairston, according to a person familiar with the deal. The contract is pending a physical. Hairston has a big swing, can hit home runs off the bench, has a pleasant disposition, and sometimes wore loud, disco-style shirts last season. |

The logical thing to do would be to keep playing the good hand, which is Nieuwenheis. Then again, the Mets are all about anti-logic, thus it's time to send the good young player down!

Kirk plays, Torres on the bench, Baxter down. + 1. there is currently no reason TODAY to pull Kirk for Torres. If Kirk shows that he is AAA in the next two weeks, then make a decision. but for now????? LET THE KID PLAY. Torres does not fit in with any long term plan. Neither did Pagan. And Torres is Pagan light....... -------------------- "Punk is whatever we made it to be"

Kirk should play everyday until he proves he can't
Baxter should stay on bench I'm in favor of cutting Bay, but not to replace him with torres- who provides nothing. I'd keep torress in norfolk -------------------- Tell your statistics to shut up
