Randy Johnson has 1125 less IPs than Roger Clemens and has hit 9 more batters in his career.

Roger Clemens is also 18th on the All-Time HBP list.

Just something to think about.

How about the fact that Clemens has more control than RJ? He IS a bit of a headhunter....

Oh I misread the post. I thought he said it the other way around.

Well anyway, why would you show us that stat? Are you a fan of Clemens? That stat really does not mean much to be at all, as gak said, Johnson does not have the accuracy that Clemens has, and you know, pitchers get the label "headhunter" for a reason.

Clemens has never been known for his accuracy. He's always been all over the place. I was just having a big debate with my friend who keeps calling him a head-hunter....and I just find that interesting that when compared to other great pitchers he's just about average...

Yes, I am a fan of Roger Clemens. A fan of Tom Seaver should appreciate his accomplishments imo....

I don't think there is anyone in this board denying how great of a pitcher he was, but I just didn't agree with the fact that you saying he is not a headhunter or that he is no more a headhunter then Randy Johnson is.

Do you also want to make an argument that Bob Gibson didn't go after batters?

I'll never forget that explosion of feathers tongue.gif That was insane laugh.gif

A lot of pitchers, Bob Gibson included, have pitched batters tight. Lord knows Pedro does it. Was Bob Gibson called a HeadHunter in his career ? If he was, then I guess its a compliment....

No doubt that Clemens has that intimidating 'style' of pitching ala Bob Gibson. If thats what people want to call HeadHunting, then thats fine.

Actually even a guy like Glavine or Maddux can be intimidating to an opposing hitter. Maybe not inflict fear, but I'm not so sure how confident they would be gettin up there.

1125 less innings than Clemens but only 150 less walks. Me thinks RJ is effectively wild and Clemens is a bully.

1458 Clemens

1302 Johnson

Best headhunter of all time is Sandy Koufax. No one can come close to him, he once drilled Willie Mays because he said he had too many HR's...

If, indeed, he actually said, "I thought it was the ball", he loses all credibility. Ken Kesey, substantially under the influence of hallucinogens, would not have suffered that confusion.

Clemens never intentionally threw that bat at Piazza. Everyone here claims he has such great control.....well there you go. If he wanted to throw at Piazza, he would have hit him. He was tossing it out of play. If you watch it again, Piazza slows down when he sees its foul, and then speeds up when he sees Clemens throw the bat towards him.

Is that a joke? Look at that video again. Just look at his eyes and look at his expression. For whever reason in his screwed up head, he was extremely angry. Besides, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can't exactly paint a corner with a bat if you know what I mean.

I know, but if he had become a met after the 2000 WS, he woulod have been embraced by the Mets, as well as their fans. Remember when Clemens wa with Toronto, and he drilled Jeter and Knoblach. The Yanks accepted him, he become a beloved Yank, and if he here we would love him as well.

Say what you will, but I'm entitled to my opinion as much as the next guy. I love the Mets more than anything, and I can't stand the Skanks. That just shows how strong I am in my opinion about Clemens. Think what you want, and I'll do the same.

The reason piazza sped up is he thought the ball was going to go fair, he never looked at clemens.

Either way, HE THREW a bat in the direction of a player he hates, intentionally or not. I have NEVER seen that happen before and still can't beleive i saw it ... moreover i can't beleive he didnt get punished for it.

Intentional or not, thats ridiculous.

Clemens hated Piazza? This is news to me. Are you guys buddies? Is he telling you something that he's not telling everyone else? He wouldn't throw a bat at someone just because he hated him. He's a professional.
